Spring Field Trip

Each spring, 6th graders have explored Baltimore in different ways to prepare them for their city project in 7th grade, and to keep them close to home, as they have had their more significant field trip in the fall. They experienced different aspects and sites of Baltimore. This year, students visited the National Aquarium for a scavenger hunt about conservation, which paralleled their science curriculum, and allowed them to put what they've learned to the test!  The tallies are still being added but the most correct answers on the scavenger hunt wins a special "Baltimore snack basket" to enjoy at snack!

Then, they walked to Hard Rock Cafe, where they enjoyed lunch, before walking to the Reginald Lewis Museum for a guided tour. Finally, they departed on Spirit Cruise, where they had a 75-minute narrated tour of Baltimore from the harbor! Students gained a very different perspective of Baltimore's sights and sounds from the water!  Everyone had a great time!

International Week

This week, there are flags everywhere, decorating the school for International Week.  The school looks amazing!  Yesterday, in advisory, every student tried to draw pictures and identify the countries of the different flags for a contest!  We hope a 6th grade advisory wins!  Try your hand at the quiz.  Below is a link to the different flags from the countries that will be represented in the winter Olympics at Sochi.  Perhaps, your sixth grade can help you!

Girls reach out to Keswick.

Ms. Cheston and Mrs. Thompson's advisories visited with Keswick residents and brought them fresh baked cookies for a 'cookie walk.'   Residents filled containers with their choice of goodies and were so touched by the girls' thoughfulness.  We also created a holiday Jeopardy game and played it with the residents.  We even had to break into song a few times to some of the Jeopardy questions.  The girls enjoyed it so much, they want to return!

Then all 6th grade girls participated in an 'in-reach' activity, where we all went to the Lower School to partner with the 6th Age classes for some holiday cookie decorating and story time.  The girls were so sweet and helpful to the younger students, and really enjoyed reading a holiday story to them.

BOO-GRAM Surprise

In an effort to make the 5th grade feel welcome and celebrated in the Middle School, sixth graders delivered surprise Boo-grams to their mailboxes.  It included a poem (see below) and a message from a sixth grader.  The bags were filled with goodies - candy, erasers, pencils, and glow sticks.  It was wonderful to reach out and doing something for the fifth graders with no expectation of anything in return. We know they enjoyed our surprise and hope they felt special and welcome!

The air is cool, the season fall
Soon Halloween will come to all.
Ghosts and goblins, spooks galore...
Tricky witches at your door.
The spooks are after fun things to do…
In fact a spook brought this "Boo" to you!
